Belize - More Photos

The bottom two photos are of the little house where we stayed. There wasn't any glass in the windows - just screens. So, our room was open to the night air and jungle noise, which was awesome.

Belize - Birds

We saw a lot of birds in Belize. Most of the time, I couldn't get a decent photo, but I like these. One of the mornings, I got up early and went on a short birdwatching tour. I turned out to be the only person to show up that particular day, so I had a private tour. We just walked around the nearby area with his scope while he pointed out birds to me and rattled off their names.

I don't remember most of what he told me, but the bird in the top photo is a type of toucan - the Collared Aracari. I saw couple parrots too (Red-lored Amazons), but I didn't get decent photos.

Belize Blue Morpho Butterfly

We just got back from Belize.

The place we stayed at had a butterfly farm. They delivered a Blue Morpho pupa to our little house. After it emerged and had dry wings, we set it free.

It stayed on our porch for a few hours, getting used to the new body. Mariana was amazed.

Percy Quin State Park

We went camping this weekend at Percy Quin State Park in Mississippi. Mariana had a great time. For only being two years old, she is getting to be pretty good at camping and hiking.

For anybody finding this post because they want to visit the park, note that the lake is drained for dam repairs. It looks like the picture below as of November 11, 2012. It makes the park less scenic, but we still had a good time.
