Prolific Herbs

On the bright side, my herbs are doing great. The top photo shows a cinnamon basil plant (just one plant, even though it looks like more). Below this text is parsley. At the bottom you see cilantro.

We also have oregano, rosemary, sage, lavender, lemon basil, sweet basil, purple basil, chives, and thyme. I really like that some of these plants are perennial - meaning that they will keep coming back year after year. Some, like cilantro and basil, I will have to sow every year.

Ugly Tomatoes

My tomatoes are not doing well. The top photo shows what birds did to a big heirloom tomato while I was in London. The bottom photo is an example of an heirloom roma with blossom end rot (probably due to inconsistent watering).

None of the problems that I have had make me second guess our choice to not use any pesticides or herbicides. I haven't had problems with weeds or insects. The Texas heat and humidity are my biggest problems. I just need to find more suitable veggies to grow, and work on my timing. The birds can even tax the crop a little - that is OK.

They still dress like that in England?

Reenactors at the Tower of London.

Tea Tins from Harrods

I am back from London.

The only souvenirs we bought were these tea tins from Harrods. I like them for several reasons.

They didn't cost much.
The contents are consumable.
They are useful (Jenny buys loose leaf tea and has been looking for a good way to store it).

London Photos

I know you all have been waiting for this...

Finally in London!

After waiting nearly ten hours at the airport, Ted and I boarded the plane and left Houston around 2:30 Friday morning. We didn't land in London until after 5pm. We were still able to check into our hotel and enjoy a short walk in Hyde Park before finding a nice Italian restaurant for dinner. Now the challenge will be to sleep a full night tonight so we can acclimate to the time change quickly.
Tomorrow our plan is to take a double-decker bus tour of the city and check out some of the sights. We'll try to post some pictures tomorrow.
Thanks for the prayers,

Still Waiting To Go To London

We are sitting at the airport, listening to further announcements of flight delays.

Luckily, I have a camera and a laptop. So, I can post random photos to my blog.

To London

Tonight we leave for London.

We are at the airport right now. However, our flight is delayed about 5 hours. Now, instead of arriving tomorrow morning, we won't land in London until tomorrow afternoon. It sucks losing half a day when it is already such a short trip. Oh well. We have until Tuesday, so we will be able to do a lot, then Jenny goes to work and I come back to Houston.

I haven't been to London in about 8 years. It will be interesting to see how it matches my memory. Jenny has never seen London.

More from Around the Neighborhood

Eventually, someone is going to see me following around Jenny with a camera and think I am a stalker.

More Roatan Photos

This last photo is from the sailing trip. At this point, a little squall had overtaken us. Jenny was at the helm.
