Bread Baking

One of my goals for 2009 is to get much more familiar with my bread-baking books. To help me out, last week Jenny bought me a french bread pan so that I can make baguettes. I baked fresh bread almost every day this week. We had daily fresh bread with dinner and for our sandwiches we packed for lunch.

Also, last weekend, I made English muffins on my cast iron skillet.

Alexander Deussen Park

There is a 300 acre park only one mile from our house. I had today off, so I took Quincy there for a couple hours. He loved it.

I had been to this park a few times before, but I hadn't thoroughly explored it. So, it was a surprise today when I found out that the park has a buffalo herd.

Simple Composting

I have mentioned to a few of you that Ted and I compost at home, which has really reduced the amount of garbage we throw out or put down the garbage disposal. We don't do anything fancy. Ted just took one of our old garbage cans and used a drill to put holes all over the it. For some more simple rules here is a link to Composting Bins: Benefits, Rules, & How to Make Your Own from Simple Mom blog that walks you through how to set up and use a compost bin.

Bayou City Farmers Market

Today at the farmers' market, there were a few animals. Jenny loves it. She actually gets high on the cuteness.

Happy New Year Everyone!

simple mom book club

I hope everyone's celebrations were exciting. I wanted to start this year inviting you all to participate in a book club that I just joined. It is lead by Tsh who is the author of a blog that I read often, called Simple Mom. (Guys don't be put off by the name, it has a lot of interesting posts about simple living.) Right now we are reading "Your Money or Your Life," by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin. The plan is to read this and five other books this year. You can learn more by clicking on the book club link above. I hope you can join in the discussions.
