Laura's Visit
I have a whole album of family pictures on Picassa.
Last week Laura came to Boise for a FEMA class and we were able to visit with her a few times. It was wonderful to have her here. She is as beautiful as ever and she and Ellis are expecting their second child by Thanksgiving.
Our visit was way too brief, my hope is that we can see more of each other.

Rose Garden Panorama
I stitched together a bunch of photos from the rose garden to create this panorama. Click on it for a big version (and see if you can find Jenny).

Boise Public Market Farewell
Today, Jenny and I went to the outdoor market in downtown Boise. Since I am leaving for Houston to start work soon, this was the last time for me (for a while anyway).
We also visited the rose garden.

Latest Food Experiment
I have been making homemade tortillas frequently. Today I decided to take it a step further. I made a stack of tortillas, cut them up, brushed them with oil and salt, and baked them into chips.
Behold - homemade corn tortilla chips.

Houston Progress
On Saturday I picked Jenny up from the Boise airport. She spent the past week in Houston interviewing at ExxonMobil and looking at houses.
Today, she accepted her job offer. She will probably start working for Exxon in August.
The picture above is the house that Jenny and I are thinking about buying. It was held over the weekend for us. This week we need to get the paperwork started and hopefully make an offer. I start work soon, so we probably won't be able to get the house by the time that I get down to Houston. Right now, we think that I will start working while Jenny coordinates with the movers to get all our things packed and moved down to Houston.

Sunflower
When I awoke this morning, I discovered that one of our sunflowers bloomed. Click on the photo for a big version.

Exxon
Jenny spent the day at Exxon's Baytown complex. She really enjoyed her visit. Plus they made her an offer immediately. We have to talk it over, but if she accepts she will be a Cost Engineer.
She is spending the next couple of days running around Houston with a Realtor. I am picking her up from the Boise airport on Saturday.

Jenny -> Houston
I just dropped Jenny off at the airport. She is flying down to Houston again. This time ExxonMobil is paying for the flight. Tomorrow she has an all day interview with them. She flies back to Idaho on Saturday.
I interviewed with ExxonMobil a couple weeks ago. They wanted to hire me as an engineer, but I turned them down after Lyondell made me an offer. Jenny is interviewing for a project manager position. Wish her luck.

Random Photo
I was playing with my photos when I came across this one. In May 2002, I skipped my own college graduation ceremony and went to Badlands National Park in South Dakota. This is one of the photos I took.
It looks grainy because it was beat up by the time I scanned it into the computer. Plus, the camera was a very cheap one. It didn't have a zoom, so I had to get pretty close to the animal to take this picture.
I read somewhere that most animal attacks involve photographers.

REI Shopping Spree
Jenny and I went a little crazy at REI today. Friday will be her last day working there and we wanted to use her employee discount while we still could. We couldn't afford to not go shopping!
We bought a new tent, a sleeping pad, camping cookware, and a bunch of warm weather clothing (for Houston).

Lettuce
We have been learning how to grow our own food. However, most of our garden died because we planted our vulnerable seedlings just before a two-day cold snap. Well, the lettuce survived. We have 5 varieties of loose leaf lettuce, planted in a jumble. After coming back from Houston, we discovered that our lettuce patch was ready for harvest.

Back In Idaho
We flew back to Idaho yesterday. Now we are working on getting ready for our move to Houston. My company has a relocation package to help us out, but the main thing is to get the background check and medical screening done.
My goal is to begin work on July 7th.

Gadling Photo of the Day
I just found out that a photo from my Flickr account was chosen as Gadling’s Photo of the Day a couple days ago.
It is a photo I took in an outdoor market in the Sacred Valley of Peru.
Jeremy Kressmann of Gadling says:“The bright colors of the vegetables on the tarp along with the movement of the women as they hustle about certainly piqued my interest.”
